Waiving EDUC Courses
Graduate Studies manages the EDUC research methods and statistics courses offered in the College of Education & Human Services. Occasionally, graduate students have taken similar courses at other institutions or covered the material included in these courses through completion of a thesis, writing a manuscript, or other project/endeavor and, therefore, seek to waive such courses from their programs of study.
Students seeking a waiver of EDUC courses should follow these steps:
- Consult with Advisor: The student should consult with their chair or advisor (and other committee members if necessary) regarding previous coursework and the courses that could potentially be waived.
- Complete the Waiver Form in ServiceNow: If the chair agrees that there is potential for the required research methods or statistics courses to be waived, the student should complete the EDUC Course Waiver form in ServiceNow, which will require the student to upload a syllabus of the course thought to be equivalent, a copy of their transcript that shows the course completion date and grade, and a memo that outlines the points of correspondence between the course the student wishes to substitute and the EDUC course the student is requesting to waive. Please see the form for additional details. If you have any questions please reach out to the CEHS Associate Dean of Graduate Studies: jody.clarke@usu.edu.
The Associate Dean for Graduate Studies will review the request and make a decision. The assessment will focus on the equivalence of the courses regarding learning outcomes and the comparability of depth and breadth of topics.
If approved, the student’s Graduate Program Coordinator (GPC) will process a registration override.
