Scholarships

The scholarship application deadline for most scholarships in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services has been extended to April 15, 2024 due to the changes and delays with the 2024-2025 FAFSA application. The 2024-2025 FAFSA recently went through a software and regulatory update which is impacting the time it takes to process student FAFSA information at the federal level. More information about that FAFSA issues is available in this article USU Working to Smooth Issues Caused by FAFSA Updates.

Students will not be able to apply for college or department scholarships that require a FAFSA or a USU Need Index until the university receives students' FAFSA information, which may not be until mid-March. Please watch for updated timelines as it applies to scholarship deadlines.

To receive a scholarship you must be a student with a major housed in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services, pursuing course work each semester in your major field, and taking between 12-18 credits for an undergraduate or 9 credits for graduate students each semester. Limited scholarships are available for part-time students.

  • Most college scholarship applications for the 2024-25 academic year will be open in January 2024 and close April 15, 2024.
  • Applications for Nursing scholarships will be open January 1, 2024 – May 1, 2024.
  • Applications for SPERC scholarships will close April 15, 2024.
  • Applications for Graduate Psychology scholarships will close April 15, 2024.
  • Applications for Aggies Elevated scholarships will open May 1, 2024 and close June 1, 2024.
  • The application is at the USU General Scholarship Application. On this page, you can view a helpful video about the application and find answers to common questions.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA as part of the scholarship process. Several scholarships require applicants to show financial need, which must be shown through FAFSA information on record at the university. The process can often take a few weeks to process through the university so early application is encouraged. Apply online for the FAFSA. Please note, students do not necessarily need to be Pell eligible or loan eligible to meet scholarship need requirements, so students are encouraged to complete a FAFSA to be considered for need-based scholarships.

Scholarship Descriptions

TH Bell Scholarship

Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program that will allow them to become a licensed professional in a Utah public school. This may include teachers, special education teachers, speech or language pathologists, school psychologists, or other licensed professionals who provide services to students with disabilities.

Applicants for TH Bell scholarships at USU must be in good standing academically and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Recipients must be admitted into their degree program, and if applicable, Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP); pre-majors are ineligible. Award recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress in their degree program to remain eligible for the scholarship.

Awarding prioritization of the scholarship is given first to first-generation students who intend to become a licensed teacher or work as a licensed professional in a Utah public school, second to those non-first-generation applicants who intend to work as a licensed teacher or other licensed professional in high-need fields in a Utah public school, and third to all other applicants who intend to work as a licensed professional in a Utah public school. All applicants must meet required academic standards, be enrolled in at least six credits, and declare intent to complete an approved licensure program and work in a Utah public school.
