CEHS Awards $1.4M in Student Scholarships
The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services awarded more than 500 scholarships this academic year, totaling over $1.4M in support for undergraduate and graduate students. “This level of generous support by our donors is critical to the success of our many talented, hard-working student recipients,” shared Dean Al Smith. “The impact of these scholarships is not only evident today, but it will be amplified in the future as our students graduate and meet the critical education, health, and well-being needs of our communities throughout their careers.”

New EdD Program Debuts in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership at USU
USU has reinstated the Doctor of Education program in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership after significant structural improvements. The new program, which began Fall semester 2024, is oriented toward professionals and practitioners who are seeking to enhance their leadership skills in education and implement change directly within their professional environments.
USU Team to Build an AI-Based App Supporting Parents of Children Who Use Hearing Aids
Karen Muñoz, professor and head of the Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education at USU, along with a collaborative team of experts, has received a grant from Sonova, a Switzerland-based hearing device company. The funding will be used to develop an app that leverages artificial intelligence to support the parents of children who use hearing aids.
WebAIM Celebrates 25 Years of Improving Access to Online Information for People With Disabilities
This year marks 25 years that WebAIM (or Web Accessibility in Mind) has been working to improve online access for people with disabilities. WebAIM’s purpose is to expand the potential of the Internet for people with disabilities by empowering individuals and organizations to create and deliver accessible content. The organization is now one of the leading providers of web accessibility expertise in the world.
HDFS Team Develops Program to Measure Abuse in College Sport
Travis Dorsch, associate professor in Human Development and Family Studies at USU, is passionate about the research he and his doctoral students have been conducting for a contract they were awarded from Lasso Safe, a non-profit global coalition working toward the proactive assurance of athlete safety and wellness. The team is developing a platform to report and understand abuse in sports at the collegiate level, extramural and intramural athletics, and in recreational play in young adult sports programs.
