$7.2M Grant Awarded to the Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice Brings Digital Accessibility to Students with Disabilities

A new $7.2 million center focused on providing accessible materials to students with disabilities will open at Utah State University in October 2024. The National Center on Accessible Digital Educational Materials and Instruction, or NCADEMI, will be housed at the USU Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice. Its goal is to ensure that individuals with disabilities, from preschool to transitioning from high school, receive digital educational materials in a way that they can effectively use.

Sylvia Read, associate dean for accreditation and undergraduate studies and professor in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership, is co-editor of Using Data for Continuous Improvement in Educator Preparation. The publication addresses the relevance of improving, collecting, analyzing, and sharing data and provides case studies that illustrate quality assurance in educator preparation programs.

Kindergarten Students Library of Congress Grant Gives Utah’s K-3 Teachers Training to Access Primary Sources

Three statewide USU professors in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership (TEAL) are collaborating on a research grant to provide teachers with picture books, resources, and hands-on training to incorporate primary source materials in their K-3 classrooms. The grant, which caps at $25K, is funded by Teaching With Primary Sources Western Region (TWPS), a program sponsored by the Library of Congress.

Tylan DeeRecent Graduate of ITLS Master’s Program Named University New Advisor of the Year

Utah State University’s Office of the Provost and the USU Advising Awards Committee has named USU academic advisor Tylan Dee the university’s Outstanding New Advisor of the Year. Dee has served as an academic advisor at USU Blanding since 2022. In May 2024, he graduated with his master’s degree from the Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences (ITLS) department. He advises students from CEHS in elementary education, nursing, and psychology.

President Elizabeth Cantwell formally invests Dean Al Smith with endowed deanship.Al Smith Receives Inaugural Emma Eccles Jones Endowed Deanship

The inaugural investiture of the Emma Eccles Jones Endowed Deanship for Dean Al Smith was held on the USU campus on June 10. The investiture marks the first endowed deanship at Utah State University. Speakers at the event recognized the impact the endowment, under the leadership of Endowed Dean Al Smith, will have on the college for many years to come.

The Emma Eccles Jones Advanced Nursing Education Suite formally opened its doors on June 10. The new nursing education space allows the Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) program in Logan to double its current size, both in space and in student capacity. Now, a total of 60 students may be admitted into the BSN program each year.
