Professor Cindy Jones Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at the Honors in Education Gala from First Lady Abby Cox
Cindy Jones, professor and director of the Literacy Clinic in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership (TEAL), was recently recognized for her outstanding lifetime achievements at the Honors in Education Gala, a celebratory event in conjunction with the Stand Up for Teachers Conference, an initiative of Utah First Lady Abby Cox.

USU’s Sorenson Center Supports Adults Statewide with Free Single-Session Consultations Through Bear River Health Department Grant
The Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence, a community-facing clinical services facility located on USU’s Logan campus within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services, is now providing one-hour, single-session consultations free of charge. The services are available to adults ages 18 and above, and are supported, in part, through a grant provided by the Bear River Health Department.
Alzheimer’s Disease Prevention Health Fair Held at USU with Leading Researchers from CEHS
The Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Research Center (ADRC) hosted a health fair in June focused on Alzheimer’s Disease awareness and prevention. The fair was held in collaboration with USU faculty who have expertise in psychology, aging, neuroscience, and more. More than 100 Northern Utah residents over the age of 55, as well as their caregivers, attended the event.
CEHS and CHaSS Champion Collaboration at Annual Fall College Retreat
The annual college retreat held on August 15 was an intercollege collaboration that included the staff and faculty of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHaSS) along with the faculty and staff of CEHS. “Collaborating makes sense for our colleges,” says Dean Smith. “It drives motivation, possible connections, and brings together two colleges that thrive in helping our community flourish.”.
Special Education Students Assist Fijian Teachers and Children on Summer Study Abroad
A group of special education students spent two weeks in June on a study abroad program in the Republic of Fiji. The 15 students and two university teachers worked in local schools, providing special education professional development to teachers and instruction to the children in the classrooms.
