CEHS Colloquium "In Sickness and in Health: Dyadic Interventions for Coping with Chronic Illness" with Dr. Laura Porter

The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services presents a guest lecture with Dr. Laura Porter, a visiting scholar from Duke University School of Medicine. Her presentation titled "In Sickness and in Health: Dyadic Interventions for Coping with Chronic Illness" will be held on Wednesday, March 26th at noon in Distance Education room 013 or via Zoom. Being diagnosed with a serious illness can cause significant physical and emotional challenges for both the patient and their family members and adversely affect their relationships. Join us for a talk by Dr. Laura Porter, who will illustrate interventions targeting patients and their care partners to help manage symptoms and psychological distress, communicate effectively about illness-related concerns and maintain and/or enhance their feelings of closeness and support. Partner-assisted and couple-based interventions will be discussed, using examples from studies with advanced cancer and with dementia and pain. Light refreshments will be provided after the talk. Continuing education (CE) credit will be available for licensed psychologists upon completion of a survey that will be sent after the talk.
