Synopsis

Instructions Not Included tells the story of Betty Snider, Jean Jennings, and Kay McNulty: three female programmers of ENIAC, one of the world’s first computers developed during WW2. The story demonstrates numerous challenges each of the women overcame in their personal and professional lives, all leading to the development of one of the most advanced computers of the time. It effectively introduces key computing concepts that still apply today, while also teaching an important lesson about persistence in the face of difficulty and innovation. The illustrations provide a closer look at some of the equations the women worked to solve, and the supplemental material provides even greater historical and scientific context.
