Even today there are far more males than females working in IT, making Grace Hopper all the more remarkable. A mathematics prodigy, she joined the Navy during WWII and programmed one of the very first computers. Her work was so important that she climbed her way up through the ranks, retiring from the Navy as an Admiral in her 80s.
