Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Certificate

Rehabilitation Counseling | SPERC

The Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Certificate is designed to assist individuals with an existing master’s degree become eligible for the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) Exam. Applicants with a qualifying master’s degree in counseling or social work may become eligible to sit for the CRC exam under the Category 3 “route” as outlined by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC). The Category 3 requirements can be found here https://crccertification.com/get-certified/. A list of approved master’s degrees can be found here.

All candidates must complete the Pre-Review process with CRCC prior to submitting an application for admission into this certificate program. The pre-review process will outline the required educational deficiencies that need to be addressed to be approved for Category 3 eligibility. The pre-review includes an evaluation of the candidate’s official college transcript as well as work experience; identification of any gaps noted based on the CRC knowledge domain areas; recommendations on how to bridge coursework and experience needed to meet the eligibility requirements; and information about the next steps to submit the CRC application. The pre-review process is not considered an official application to USU. There is a nonrefundable fee for this pre-review requirement. To download the pre-review form, click here. Candidates need to submit pre-review documentation to contactus@crccertification.com.

To qualify to sit for the CRC exam, students must take a course in each CRC knowledge domain. Courses may have been taken as part of a qualifying master's degree. If there are courses that were not taken as part of a master's degree, those courses can be taken at USU to fulfill the requirements. USU is unable to evaluate transcripts to determine if a course would count or not, but CRCC will review your transcripts for a fee.

Applicants who, after the educational review by CRCC, need 16-23 credits to become eligible for the CRC exam, are eligible to apply for the Rehabilitation & Disability Studies Certificate.

Applicants who need 1-15 credits to be eligible for the CRC exam will apply as non-degree seeking students and are not eligible for the Rehabilitation & Disability Studies certificate.

Eligible scholars interested in RSA funding are encouraged to contact: Dr. Kathleen Oertle (PI and Director) or Dr. Cassandra McCall (Co-PI) for more information.
