As consumers of educational programs, students should be mindful of the type of program they enroll in. One way to ensure the program is a high-quality program is the accreditation. Utah State University (USU) is accredited as a university by the Northwestern Commission on Colleges and Universities.
At the program level, the Master of Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) degree at Utah State University is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). CACREP Accreditation provides recognition that the content and quality of the program have been evaluated and meet standards set by the counseling profession. Core content demonstrating instruction on eight core counseling areas is required. These required knowledge domains are:
- Professional Counseling Orientation and Ethical Practice
- Social and Cultural Diversity
- Human Growth and Development
- Career Development
- Counseling and Helping Relationships
- Group Counseling and Group Work
- Assessment and Testing
- Research and Program Evaluation
The USU MRC program presently meets all standards for the rehabilitation counseling specialty area. Graduates of the USU MRC program meet eligibility requirements for certification by the Commission for Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and the National Board for Counselor Certification (NBCC).
