Common Problems
Poor internet connection at home:
- Sometimes internet modems and routers just get stuck. Try turning your modem and router off, counting to ten and then turning it back on to see if a simple reset solves the problem.
- Check your internet speed. For Zoom webinars to function you need an internet speed of 600 kbps (down). A megabyte is 1,000 times faster than a kilobyte.
- To test your internet speed search “internet speed test” in Google. The first result should be an internet speed test through the Measurement Lab. Click the blue button, “run test.”
- An internet connection through an ethernet cable is always faster and more reliable than through wifi. Try connecting your computer directly to your internet modem.
- If your internet speed is slower than normal there might be a system problem impacting your service through your provider. Try calling your internet company to inquire if the internet might be down on their end.
Trouble finding links to join workshops:
- The conference schedule and conference launch pages are different. From the conference home page, make sure that you click the large blue button titled “Launch Conference” to access the different workshops.
Not knowing the password to join the Zoom webinars:
The password to join the conference workshop was shared with registered attendees via email in two ways.
Please check your inbox for:
1. An Arts Are Core conference registration confirmation email from EventBrite.
2. A pre-conference email from Addison Odum (addison.odum@usu.edu)
The password is the same to join all of the workshops.
I clicked the button to join a workshop from the conference launch page, but am still having trouble joining the workshop:
The registration link and workshop access links are different.
- The buttons on the conference launch page directs you to the registration page for each workshop. To join the Zoom meeting you will need to provide your name and email address. Make sure you click the blue “register” button at the bottom of the form.
- Once you’ve clicked the “register” button a registration confirmation page will be displayed.
- To join the workshop, click the link at the bottom of the registration confirmation page.
- As a part of registering you will also receive a confirmation email. The link to join the webinar will also be included there.
Are you joining the right workshop?
- When you’ve successfully followed a webinar link to a workshop and connected to the webinar through Zoom, you might be directed to a black box that provides the name and time of the workshop you are joining until the moderator starts the session.
- If you find yourself waiting several minutes after your session is scheduled to start, double check that you are signed in to the correct webinar and are not accidentally waiting for a workshop for a future session. :^)
Can’t find conference resources and handouts:
- The conference resources and handouts are only available once you’ve launched the conference.
From the conference home page clink the large blue button at the top of the page titled “Launch Conference.” - At the top of the conference launch page are three buttons: conference home page, resources, and social media connect.
- Click on the “resources” button to access additional conference materials.
