Interdisciplinary Practicum Requirements

Students must fulfill interdisciplinary practicum requirements across service delivery rotations, as described in the Graduate Student Handbook for each academic year.

  • For each rotation, students must earn a minimum score of ‘3’ across all competency categories as indicated on the Practicum Competencies Evaluation form.
  • Students who do not meet competency requirements may be required to extend or repeat a practicum placement.

Graduate Educational Project

Students complete an educational project during the second year of the graduate program.  Students are assigned a faculty mentor; the faculty mentor guides the determination of project options and must approve project completion.

Student Teaching

Students must successfully complete a Student Teaching semester to fulfill degree and licensure requirements.  Students who already hold a professional educator license, and who do not wish to earn a Utah educator license, may be eligible to complete another semester of practicum in lieu of student teaching.

  • Students must demonstrate minimum teaching competencies, as documented on the Student Teaching Competency Evaluation form.
  • Students must successfully complete the teaching extension portfolio, as described in Canvas.
  • Upon successful completion of coursework, practicum, and student teaching, students earn a Master of Education Degree and are eligible to earn a Utah Deaf Education Professional Educator License with a Listening and Spoken Language Endorsement.
