Amanda Christensen graduated from the HDFS department in 2008 with an emphasis in Family Finance.  She also completed a Master’s degree from the department in 2010.  Amanda is currently an Extension Professor with Utah State University specializing in personal finance outreach education.  Of the position she said:

In essence, instead of a teaching/research assignment on campus with students, I have an Extension/service assignment to develop educational resources and teach Utahn’s about personal finance. I develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills of individuals to manage financial resources. Impact data reports that individuals who engage with my programs create financial goals, reduce their debt burden, review their credit reports, track monthly spending, implement a monthly budget, increase savings, and report an overall increase in financial wellbeing. To extend my reach, I provide a variety of delivery methods including face-to-face instruction, online webinars, online courses, YouTube videos, Instagram videos (IGTV), websites, social media outreach, television, and radio. Through these methods, I provide research and evidence-informed personal finance education to fulfill the Extension mission of extending university resources to the communities I serve.

Amanda is an outstanding Extension Professor and has received multiple state and national awards for her service, programs, and leadership.

Amanda appreciates the knowledge and experience she gained in the HDFS department, and the help it has given her in her career.  She especially appreciates that the Family Finance emphasis prepared her to become an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) through the Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE).  Of the AFC designation and AFCPE, Amanda said:

The AFC and AFCPE have really been paramount in my pursuit of excellence in the field of personal finance. Both are synonymous with quality standards that I feel people should expect from experts who teach personal finance and create resources to help people navigate real-life money decisions.
