Eligibility
Aggies Elevated is an Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) program designed specifically for students with Intellectual Disability (IQ of 75 or less). If student’s primary diagnosis is not intellectual disability (for example, autism, TBI, specific learning disability, etc.), they may still be eligible if they have co-occurring intellectual disability or documentation that shows they function similarly to someone with an intellectual disability.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Documented diagnosis of Intellectual Disability (IQ of 75 or less)
- Any student with an IQ over 75 will need to show recent evidence of limitations in adaptive behavior, processing and other cognitive domains, and learning/academic skills. We are unable to accept students with an IQ above 85.
- Between ages of 18 and 26 by Sept. 1 of the year they start the program
- Has/had an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan in high school
- Desire to attend college and benefit from the college experience
- Expressed interest in independent living and integrated community employment
- Can function on a college campus without 24/7 support
- Demonstrates appropriate skills to interact with others and navigate campus
- Demonstrates basic safety skills in unsupervised settings
- Demonstrates basic independent living skills to live in student housing
- Not a threat to themselves or others (i.e., aggressiveness, defiance, running away, self-injury, stealing, etc.)
- Not currently dealing with severe mental health issues (suicidality, psychosis, hallucinations, etc.)
- Willing to accept feedback, correction, and constructive criticism
- Experience using a computer independently (email, Word, etc.)
Aggies Elevated does not provide services such as individualized mental health therapy, PT, OT, speech therapy, medication management, or personal care (getting ready, bathing, toileting, etc.). If a student requires such services, program staff can provide information about available campus and community resources, but the student/family is responsible for coordination, adherence, and payment.
