Educational Background
Biography
My work is driven by the notion that participation in and with scientific ideas has profound impact on civic life and one should not be barred from these conversations due to complicated language.
Teaching Interests
Good Tier 1 instruction requires the appropriate and timely implementation of instructional routines and supports based on the specific needs of the student. To support teachers in this endeavor, I am passionate about bringing the Science of Reading and Writing to every class.
Research Interests
My research focuses on the cognitive and linguistic components of school-based texts that impact reading and writing outcomes and are amenable to instruction for the purposes of mitigating academic difficulties for middle grade students. My research leverages research-practice partnerships (RPP) to design teacher-implemented interventions and professional learning resources to incorporate explicit literacy instruction in content-areas, such as in science or history.
