Madeline Abram-Moyle, graduate student in Kinesiology, recently received a Student Membership award from the Applied Public Health Statistics Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA). This award is given annually in recognition of students’ education and work experience, interest in health statistics, and promising future in public health practice or research. The award provides a 1-year APHA Student membership with the Section and offers multiple benefits, including professional and leadership opportunities within APHA.

For the past year, Madeline has been a student in the Health Education and Promotion Master of Public Health program, which is part of the Kinesiology and Health Science department at Utah State University. She has also worked as a graduate research assistant to Dr. Debasree DasGupta, assistant professor in Health Education.

Madeline received her undergraduate degree in Public Health at Utah Valley University, where she held several positions including instructional assistant, intern for UVU’s Skin Cancer AwareNess program, COVID-19 data assistant, and research assistant. These projects provided Madeline her first exposure to health statistics, and she soon discovered her passion for biostatistical methods.

Currently, Madeline is collaborating with Dr. DasGupta on several research projects that analyze older adult health disparities using spatial and biostatistical methods. Madeline has assisted in all phases of research on these projects, particularly in leading the literature review and summarizing findings and evidence. Following the completion of her master’s degree, Madeline aims to obtain a PhD in public health and continue fine-tuning her statistical knowledge and skills.

Congratulations, Madeline!
