Biography
Since my time at USU I have had many positions and responsibilities. By far my favorite and most rewarding is my current position as a faculty member in the KHS department. Previous to that I served as a Vice and Provost and then as the Founding Department Head of the Department of Nursing and Health Science. I serve on USU committees related to enhancing teaching quality and USU Athletics. I am actively engaged in a few local non-profit organizations that aim to improve the quality of life for those in the community. After completing of my PhD I began my professional and academic career at Illinois State University as a faculty member. After 3 years in Illinois, I accepted a position at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where I served as a faculty member, Department Head and Associate Dean. After 10 years in Colorado I "came home" to USU 8 years ago as a Vice Provost and later Founding Department Head. I stepped out of administration and returned to the full-time faculty role in 2016.
Teaching Interests
My teaching interests are varied and broad as I have had experience and training in many different content areas. I enjoy working with students and receive great satisfaction in motivating and empowering them towards learning, development, and ultimately to making an impact in society. My primary method of teaching generally involves team-based experiential service learning. I try to bring real life into the classroom through the projects we undertake and the methods by which we learn. I see myself as more of a mentor and facilitator of learning as opposed to a teacher. I am currently a member of the American Public Health Association.
Research Interests
My current research is focused on enhancing learning and in motivating individuals to actively engage in the learning process using unique high-impact experiential learning and teaching activities.
