Biography

I am an instructor that has been hired from outside the department (outside instructor) in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science in the Health Education and Promotion Bachelor's and Master of Public Health program. I completed my doctoral degree at the University of Utah and received my BS & MS degrees from Utah State. I have been a Certified Health Education Specialist since 2002 (MCHES since 2011). I am excited to bring my experience as a researcher, instructor, and public health professional into the classroom. My career goals include bridging the gap between research and practice, advocating for research-based health promotion and addressing social determinates of health in our communities.  My research interests include children’s physical activity and eating patterns, parental roles and the family environment, as well as school physical activity policies and practices. 

I currently reside in Northern Virginia, with my husband, daughter, and our pup George 

I am currently teaching HEP 4100 (Foundations of Community Health Education), HEP 5400 (Prevention Strategies for Obesity & Disordered Eating), HEP 6000 (Advanced Program Planning & Evaluation for Public Health), & HEP 6550 (Qualitative Methods for Public Health).
