Biography

I am an adjunct assistant professor in the MPH program. I am also a faculty member in the Department of Global and Community Health at George Mason University in Northern Virginia. With over two decades of experience as a Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES since 2011), I bring a dynamic blend of academic expertise, research experience, and public health practice into the classroom. My teaching philosophy centers on energizing and empowering students through hands-on, applicable learning. I believe that education should lead to greater well-being and inspire meaningful action—personally, professionally, and within communities. I am committed to mentoring future public health leaders from diverse backgrounds and creating inclusive, engaging learning environments that bridge theory and practice. My research focuses on children’s physical activity and eating patterns, the role of parents and family environments, and school-based physical activity policies. I have conducted qualitative research with a wide range of stakeholders, including parents, school administrators, district leaders, and policymakers, to inform health promotion strategies and address social determinants of health. My teaching interests include qualitative methods in public health, health education and promotion, program planning and evaluation, and leadership and advocacy in public health. I received my BS and MS from Utah State University and my PhD from the University of Utah.
