Educational Background

PhD, Public Policy, George Mason University, 2013

Biography

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science where I teach graduate courses for the Master of Public Health (MPH) program in Health Education and Promotion. I received my PhD in Public Policy from George Mason University, Schar School of Policy and Government. Prior to USU, I have worked as a health policy analyst and have taught undergraduate- and graduate-level courses delivered via different formats (face-to-face, online, hybrid).

Teaching Interests

Statistics; Research Methods; Spatial Analysis; Social Determinants

Research Interests

I specialize in public health research, with expertise in quantitative (spatial, econometric, epidemiological) methodologies using population/health data and Geographic Information System (GIS). My current research centers on examining health and aging phenomena, with an emphasis on (1) analyzing social determinants of health among older adults, such as social isolation, neighborhood factors, and age-group differences; and (2) examining social determinants of older adult-nonelderly relations, including geographic patterns of aging, spatial separation between age groups, and multigenerational living arrangements.
