Characterizing Children's Free-Play Physical Activity: Steps vs Counts

Biography

I am an assistant professor with a background in exercise physiology. My research interests are in the promotion and measurement of physical activity, particularly in children.

Teaching Interests

Research methods, statistics, health behaviors, the built environment, exercise physiology.

Research Interests

Ensuring we have valid, reliable, and sensitive measures of physical activity is the foundation of my research. I am also interested in how the physical environment influences children's free-play, how behavior varies over time and space, and how this impacts subsequent positive and negative environmental exposures (e.g., to noise, nature). Lastly, I want to ensure that all children, pre-K to 12, have sufficient opportunities for free-play during the school day.
