Biography

I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science from Utah State University where I began my career in Sports working for the Athletic department as an Event Management Assistant. I then went on to get a Master Degree in Sports Administration form Arkansas State University while I worked for the city of Saratoga Springs Utah as an Assistant Recreation Coordinator before receiving my current position as a Full-Time Coordinator for Salt Lake County located at Copperview Rec Center in Midvale, UT. I currently oversee 6 youth sports programs as well as adult pickleball and our events that we hold at the rec center. I have worked for city and county rec departments around the southwest as well as nonprofits such as the Boys and Girls Club. I enjoy watching any sport and learning to play them as well. I love being outside and enjoy camping and hiking with my wife. I love my job and have a desire to advance my career by moving into manager/director positions and pushing forward the field of Parks and Recreation in the state of Utah.

Most meaningful thing learned or experienced during my time as a student:

I learned how to write up program proposals, research papers, and a bit about grants.

Advice for current students/recent graduates:

Get out and into the Rec departments that are around. Learn everything that you can about coordinating programs and how different programs work. Learn about how to work with the city government and the municipal governments. Volunteer at every possible opportunity to gain experience with all kinds of recreational programs. Also meet as many people in the field as you can.
