Biography

While attending USU, I worked at the Logan Rec center running recreation programs and community events. I loved it so much that I changed my major to Parks and Rec. Once I graduated, I worked full time at USU's on campus Hotel and Conference Center planning events both on campus and across the country. In 2011, I was able to start my own business doing event management and have been doing that ever since. I have loved having my own business doing what I love and have had some amazing experience during my 15-year career so far. It’s given me the flexibility to volunteer in my community (including as a Recreation Director) and coach my kids in sports all the way up to the high school level now. I was awarded the Meeting Professionals International Planner of the Year Award for the Utah Chapter in 2012.

Most meaningful thing learned or experienced during my time as student:

I think for me it was that I worked in the Parks and Rec field while going to school so I was able to take things I was learning and apply them both ways. The Logan Rec center was really great at letting me take school projects and create them into real-life programs at the rec center.

Advice for current students/recent graduates:

I would highly recommend getting some hands-on experience in the field you are studying while you are in school. That paid huge dividends for me both in helping me know this is what I wanted to do and also giving me the experience to have job opportunities right out of school.
