The Family Finance program in the HDFS department prepares students to take the Accredited Financial Counseling (AFC) exam through the Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE).  Every year, AFCPE has a symposium and students are encouraged to attend and present.  This year, the symposium was virtual.

Each year as part of the symposium, AFCPE hosts a Knowledge Bowl competition.  The HDFS department had a team which consisted of Sarah Sterzer, Cole Williams, and Jessica Ralphs.  The USU team had a good showing, placing 8 points behind the winning team.  The questions were harder than they have been other years.  Team members get free registration for the conference and this year as an added bonus, the teams get to sign up for the AFC program for free.  Our team was the only one that had all three members already signed up.

Graduate student Alana Stowe presented a breakout session on a paper titled, Creating an Effective Online Financial Counseling/Coaching Class.  She received great feedback from the presentation.  Three other graduate students presented posters at the symposium including Emily Hale, Ellie Hansen, and Loryn Law.  Faculty presentations were given by Yoon Lee, Alena Johnson, and Cindy Stokes.

Also, a previous student in the Family Finance program, Ryan Law, receive the prestigious Distinguished Fellow Award.
