Biography
I am a Professor in the Clinical/Counseling Psychology PhD specialization at Utah State University. I received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno under the mentorship of Dr. Steven C. Hayes and completed my predoctoral internship at the Brown University Clinical Psychology Training Consortium.
My research primarily focuses on how Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) can be delivered through self-guided technologies (e.g., books, websites, apps) to help address mental health concerns across a wide range of problem areas and populations (e.g., anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive related disorders, depression, weight self-stigma, coping with chronic health conditions, college mental health). This research has been supported by several grants from the National Institutes of Health and foundations. I have conducted over 40 clinical trials evaluating ACT and published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, with the vast majority of this research including graduate student authors. This research led to the development of ACT Guide, a publicly available mental health program with over 4,000 users to-date.
I co-direct the USU ACT Research Group with Dr. Michael Twohig, which you can learn more about at utahact.com.
I am planning to accept a new graduate student for Fall 2025.
