Biography

Hi, I’m Erica. I am a student in the Combined Clinical/Counseling specialization with an emphasis in Multicultural/Rural Psychology. I work with Dr. Melissa Tehee and research physical, learning, and mental health disabilities in Native American youth. I was awarded the Native American Leader Fellowship in 2017, and work to develop disability awareness in Native Americans within the State of Utah. I am also a member of the Society of Indian Psychologists and hope to help other Native American students develop their research interests and attend graduate school through the SIP mentorship committee.

I am from Mobile, Alabama, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Alabama in December 2016. I am a proud member of the Tlingit and Lakota tribes. I found my passion for psychology from her mother and grandfather after learning about the mental health issues experienced by the Native American community. My long-term career goal is to obtain an academic position, so that I can research and bring awareness to these mental health disparities, with the hopes of reducing and negating them.
