Dr. Odum Appointed President of the Society for the Experimental Analysis of Behavior

Dr. Amy Odum, a professor within the Utah State University Department of Psychology, has been appointed to serve as the next president of the Society for the Experimental Analysis of Behavior.

“I’m really honored to lead the society with the help of so many talented predecessors and board members,” said Odum. “The society is in an excellent position with impactful journals publishing rigorous articles spanning basic laboratory research to applications and clinical studies.”

The Society for the Experimental Analysis of Behavior was founded in 1957 and states its purpose is to “encourage, foster, and promote the advancement of the science of experimental analysis of behavior.” The society also works to promote research for the increase and diffusion of knowledge of the science of behavior and publishes the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior and the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis in partnership with Wiley Blackwell.

In her new position as president, Odum will lead the board of directors in making decisions about the operation and future of the society, as well as both journals. She will also oversee the election of new editors.

“I will focus on specific priorities,” said Odum. “These are to continue the work of increasing transparency, equity, and inclusion in the society, its journals, and the editorial process.”

Odum’s own research focuses on delay discounting and impulsivity, environmental factors influencing the development of tolerance and sensitization to drugs of abuse, and equity and diversity. Odum has previously served as editor in chief of the Journal of Experimental Analysis of Behavior, as well as an editorial board member for several other publications.
