BSN Application Process

The BSN (Logan) Nursing program is admitting students twice per year – for fall and spring semesters. Students who apply from January 1 to February 15 will be considered for Fall admission. Students who apply from July 1 to August 15 will be considered for Spring admission.

Complete Application

  • Complete a Utah State University (USU) Admissions Application for acceptance (if not currently enrolled or returning from a Leave of Absence). There is a $50 application fee.
    • Submit all official college transcripts (if transfer student); or high school or GED verification to USU Admissions.
    • TOEFL score is required for non-native English-speaking students.

Complete Prerequisites

Prerequisite Requirements:
  • Prerequisite course requirements must be completed with a grade of “B-” or better. Three course attempts for any one course will be accepted. 
  • Repeats exceeding 4 attempts will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Application for Fall Entry: accepted annually January 1 – February 15.
Application for Spring Entry: accepted annually July 1 – August 15.

These prerequisite courses require a minimum grade of B- and 2. 0 overall GPA and must be completed at the time of program application.​

Complete online BSN Application



  • General Application — Please submit the following:
    • CNA certification or Medical Assistant (MA) certification/degree is required to be considered for admission. CNA certification is preferred. You will be asked to upload a copy of your certificate.
    • Resume. This template is required to list your education, employment, and other information in a standard format. Calculate in advance the number of hours you’ve been employed as a CNA or MA, if applicable. You will have the opportunity to list your other employment.
    • Copy of receipt for non-refundable $30.00 application fee in PDF format.
    • HESI A2 exam score (75% or better). Applicants are allowed two attempts per application cycle. Two weeks in between attempts are required. HESI A2 scores older than two years will not be accepted.
  • Application Essay:
    • You will not see these questions as you upload your documents in the application. Essay questions and instructions will be emailed to applicants each Friday by 5:00 PM during the application cycle. Any applications that have been submitted by Thursday at 11:59 PM of that week will be sent the email at that time. If you do not see this email, check your email junk/spam folders. You will have one week to complete your essay questions from the time you receive your email.
    • Be prepared to write about your own personal experiences with topics such as care of others, life challenges, responsible behaviors, the many facets of diversity, and success.

Phase 1

  • Application Essay questions - Essay questions and instructions will be emailed to applicants on Fridays throughout the application cycle. You will not see these questions as you upload your documents. Check your email junk/spam folders.
Phase 2
  • Video interviews

Students will be notified of application status, and whether or not it was advanced to the subsequent phase. Meeting the minimum requirements to apply to the Nursing Program does not guarantee acceptance.

Applicants will be notified whether they have advanced to Phase 2 after we have received all applications and completed the ranking process. Once the application deadline closes, we will need a couple of weeks to review and rank all applicants. You can expect to be informed whether you have advanced to Phase 2 around 2-3 weeks after the application deadline of February 15 or August 15.

If invited to participate in Phase 2, please be sure to read all instructions carefully as you will only have one chance to complete your video interview.

Accepting Position

If you accept a position in the BSN nursing program, you will read, understand, and agree to comply with the standards, requirements, and policies in the Nursing Student Handbook.



Fall applications will close at 11:59 p.m. on February 15. 
Spring applications will close at 11:59 p.m. on August 15.

Scholarship Application

A wide variety of scholarships are available to nursing students.

For Fall semester entry to the program, apply for scholarships by the May 1 deadline.

For Spring semester entry, apply by the October 24 deadline.

Meet Preclinical Requirements

Preclinical requirements are due prior to the beginning of your BSN program. Full instructions are provided with your acceptance letter:
  • Create or update your USU compliance management tool with American Databank (ADB)
  • Urine drug screen and background check - initiated with your ADB/Complio account
  • Please have your immunization documents ready to upload when instructed in an upcoming email, specifically your Hepatitis B titer, which can take up to 6 months to complete. It is critically important that you are immunization-compliant by the start of clinical.
