Biography
Jaewhan Kim is a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Utah’s College of Health. He serves as Co-Director of the Health Economics Core within the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and is also a data scientist with the University of Utah Medical Group. As a health economist and statistician, he specializes in working with diverse healthcare datasets, including Medicare, Medicaid, SEER-Medicare, Utah All Payer Claims Data (APCD), and state facility data (inpatient, outpatient surgery, and ER data) to conduct research on healthcare costs and utilization. His primary research focuses on metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS). Notably, he has contributed to studies examining whether individuals with obesity who undergo MBS have a higher or lower likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease and dementia in long-term follow-up.
