Sleep

Sleep is vital for brain health, at any age.

In Alzheimer’s disease, a protein called beta amyloid builds up in the brain. This protein is supposed to be in the brain, just not at the high levels in Alzheimer’s.

During sleep, this protein gets cleared, to some extent.

PET scans show that shorter sleep and lower sleep quality are associated with more “uncleared” beta amyloid in the brain.
