Biography

Idris is a Ph.D. student in the Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences department at Utah State University. He holds a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, a postgraduate diploma in Science Education, and a STEM Education research diploma.

Idris has taught physics, chemistry, and mathematics in K12 schools in Nigeria. His interest in education research grew out of new perspectives on teaching and learning gained through his classroom teaching experience. His prior research in STEM education focused on problem-based learning and its influence on resolving learners' misconceptions and building science competence. With a constructivist view of learning, his research interests include how learners acquire, organize, and develop scientific concepts, and the contribution of metacognition and self-regulation to knowledge retention and sense-making in everyday life contexts.
