Dr. Don Smellie
In Memory of Dr. Don Smellie
The Department of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences (ITLS) at Utah State University mourns the passing of Dr. Don Smellie, a dedicated educator and visionary leader whose impact was felt at Utah State University.
Dr. Andrew Walker, the ITLS department head, fondly recalls his first meeting with Dr. Smellie: “I got to meet Dr. Smellie when I was first interviewing for graduate school. I remember him as being very student-focused. We have undergone many changes as a department that would not have been possible without his decades-long leadership at the University level and internationally.”
The passing of Dr. Smellie was featured at the AECT International Conference membership meeting on October 22nd and will also be the focus of the editor’s notes in a forthcoming issue of TechTrends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Foxridge Ward Chapel, 155 N. 100 E., Providence, Utah, with Bishop Jared Jensen conducting. Viewings will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m., both at the church. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
