Recent graduate PhD student of ITLS received 2024 Strohbehn Internship

The Department of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences is proud to announce that Dr. Aubrey Rogowski, a recent graduate of Utah State University, has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the prestigious Strohbehn Internship. This highly competitive award is part of the Addie Kinsinger Leadership Development Internship Program, sponsored by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). The program aims to cultivate future leaders in the field of educational technology by providing hands-on leadership development opportunities at the annual AECT International Convention.

It has been a long time since our department has been fortunate to be represented by an AECT Intern. This selection represents years of leadership engagement by Dr. Rogowski with AECT as a conference volunteer, session facilitator, and with the Teacher Engagement Division, among other efforts. A huge congratulations to her for this accomplishment!

Dr. Rogowski’s research focuses on improving how students and educators engage with STEM and computer science (CS) learning opportunities. She has worked on multiple NSF-funded projects at Utah State University, including developing integrated curricula that combine math and CS for 5th graders and expanding access to computing education for Indigenous students. Her dissertation evaluated a professional development program aimed at helping K-6 paraprofessionals integrate computational thinking (CT) into STEM classes. Through her research, she identified both opportunities for growth and challenges in implementing CT, contributing valuable insights to the field of educational technology.

The Strohbehn Internship is a key part of the Addie Kinsinger Leadership Development Internship Program, a competitive initiative that aims to cultivate future leaders within AECT. The program is designed to involve graduate students and new professionals more deeply in the organization, providing them with opportunities for leadership development and hands-on experience through participation in the annual AECT International Convention.

As one of the most highly competitive opportunities, the Strohbehn Internship is awarded to students and professionals who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential. Alongside the Strohbehn Internship, the Addie Kinsinger Leadership Development Internship Program also offers the Cochran Internship, recognizing individuals with remarkable leadership potential, and the Harris Internship, which focuses on fostering leadership in the areas of diversity and transformational change.
