Biography

Dr. Casey Clay is an Assistant Professor in the Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling Department at Utah State University. He was previously a post-doctoral fellow and an assistant professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Missouri and served as a clinical director at the Thompson Center for Autism in Missouri. He also was the founder and Director of Behavior Clinics at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in California and holds an adjunct position at University of California, Irvine and visiting scientist position at CHOC.

Dr. Clay is a former President of the Four Corners Association for Behavior Analysis and has served on the board of the Missouri Association for Behavior Analysis. He is a currently on the board of editors for the journals Behavior Analysis: Research and Practice and Behavior Analysis in Practice and has served as an ad hoc Reviewer and Guest AE for the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Modification, Journal of Organizational Behavior Management, and the Journal of Special Education Technology. Dr. Clay is an author of the recent 7th edition of Behavior Analysis and Learning textbook with Rasmussen, Pierce, and Cheney.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Clay's teaching interests include Concepts and Principles in Behavior Analysis, Philosophical Underpinnings of Behavior Analysis, and Systems and Training related to behavioral change.

Research Interests

Dr. Clay’s research interests include assessment and treatment of challenging behavior, assessment of non-traditional preferred and competing stimuli, and methods to efficiently and effectively train assessment and intervention practices. Dr. Clay has most recently published on and been involved in the use of fully immersive virtual reality (VR) training for assessment and intervention of challenging behavior. These VR simulations have been in used in educational, clinical, and hospital settings.
