Undergraduate Awards
Scholar of the Year
This award recognizes excellence in scholarship. Other service and student activity involvement may become a consideration in the selection process, but the main emphasis will be on scholarly achievement. The nominee must be an undergraduate CEHS student and not a past recipient of this award. Nominees must demonstrate outstanding academic success and show evidence of scholarly activities such as:
- Completion of undergraduate research
- Receipt of an URCO or other undergraduate research grant
- Participation as a writing fellow, teaching assistant, undergraduate teaching fellow
- Participation in performances or other artistic endeavors
- Participation in presentations at professional conferences
- Completion of scholarly publications
- Participation in the Honors Program
- Participation in professional or scholarly organizations
- Completion of a senior project or thesis

Undergraduate Student Researcher of the Year
This award recognizes an excellent student and a notable undergraduate researcher who has consistently engaged in independent inquiry through classes, student employment, and independent research grants. Students also typically seek to share their results at undergraduate research events or professional conferences. The nominee must be a CEHS student.

Undergraduate Teaching Fellow of the Year
This award is given each year to recognize an outstanding undergraduate teaching fellow (UTF) who works in assisting faculty in teaching. Faculty who wish to nominate their UTF should contact their UTF and ask that they prepare a UTF teaching award portfolio. The nominee must be a CEHS student and not a past recipient of the award.
Criteria:
- Conscientiously carries out duties as assigned by the faculty mentor
- Offers insight to the faculty mentor on how the course or assignments may be improved or enhanced
- Genuinely helps students enrolled in the course (as evidenced by the students’ evaluations or comments)
- Demonstrates integrity in working with the confidential matters of academic work

Graduate Awards
Doctoral Student Researcher of the Year
This award recognizes an excellent student and a notable doctoral researcher who has consistently engaged in independent inquiry. The nominee must be a CEHS student and not a past recipient of this award.

Graduate Student Teacher of the Year
This award recognizes an outstanding graduate student who has taught and has evaluations from at least 2 courses at USU to be considered for the college Graduate Student Teacher of the Year. The nominee must be a CEHS student and not a past recipient of this award.

Legacy of Utah State Award
This award recognizes an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student who represents the heart and soul of the university. Candidates should show a commitment to the institution and their program of study, as well as demonstrate internal involvement and service, department dedication, perseverance during times of adversity, and contribution behind the scenes.
Criteria:
The recipient will have participated in the following manner:
- Commitment to institution and their program of study
- Internal involvement and service
- Department dedication
- Perseverance during times of adversity
- Contribution behind the scenes
- Hard worker and good work ethic
- Nominee must be a student in a CEHS department and not a past recipient of this award.

Faculty Awards
Applied Educator Award
This college-level award is to recognize faculty who are involved in the education/training of students in an applied manner. This includes faculty who provide clinical supervision, those who supervise student teachers, and those who provide instruction in applied/professional courses.

Candidates may include tables, lists, graphs, etc. that highlight their impact as an applied educator.

Teacher of the Year Award
This award is given each year to recognize and emphasize excellence in teaching. Other scholarly activity such as research and publication records may be considered in the selection process, but the main emphasis will be on teaching excellence.
Criteria:
- Nominee must be serving in a benefitted faculty position
- Must have had a minimum of 6-credit annual teaching assignment including at least 1 undergraduate course per year, for at least three consecutive years.
The college-level recipient will be put forward as a nominee for the university-wide Eldon J. Gardner Teacher of the Year award. Because so many individuals are potentially deserving of the Eldon J. Gardner Teacher of the Year award, past recipients are not considered.

Professor Lifetime Achievement Award
This award is given each year by to recognize an outstanding senior faculty member who has demonstrated 20+ years of consistent excellence in each aspect of their role statement.
Criteria:
- Demonstrated record of sustained excellence in all aspects of the role statement
- Commitment to serving the public through learning, discovery, and engagement
The college-level recipient will be put forward as a nominee for the university-wide Cazier Professor Lifetime Achievement award.

Faculty Researcher of the Year
This award recognizes excellence in research, scholarship or creative activity over a limited and recent period of time (past 3 calendar years).
Criteria:
- The faculty nominee must be a current CEHS employee with at least 3 years of employment as a CEHS faculty member or have retired within the past 12 months prior to submission
The college-level recipient will be put forward as a nominee for the university-wide Faculty Researcher of the Year award.

The statement should include items that are not easily recognized from the CV.
A committee appointed by the college Associate Dean for Research and Innovation will review nominees and recommend an individual for the college Faculty Researcher of the Year Award. The faculty member selected will have materials forwarded to the USU Office of Research selection committee for consideration for the university Faculty Researcher Award.
$1000 award will be given to the recipient in the form of research funds to be used by the recipient to further their research activities.

Faculty University Service Award
This award is given each year to recognize and encourage excellence in service to University operations and governance.
Criteria:
- Excellence in institutional service for at least 3 years as supported by letters from peers
- Evidence of effective leadership while involved in service activities
- Evidence of outstanding quality, innovation, and impact in service activities
- Recognized activities include service at the university, college and/or department levels and may include libraries and USU Extension. Examples include:
- Service on one or more of the standing or ad hoc committees of the Faculty Senate or other councils, committees, or task forces addressing specific university issues and initiatives
- Service on department, college, or university committees
- Service on search committees or promotion/tenure committees, and other activities performed in service to the University
- Nominees must be full time USU faculty members with at least 3 years of employment at USU (tenure-track, tenured, or term appointments) without administrative role statements (small or minimal county director appointments for Extension are allowed)
The award does not recognize service to a professional organization or community outside of USU.
Because so many individuals are potentially deserving of this award, past recipients will not be considered, nor will current or recent (within 3 years of serving) Faculty Senate presidents.

Graduate Faculty Mentor of the Year
This award recognizes faculty excellence in the complex process of mentoring graduate students to prepare them for productive careers.
Criteria:
- Nominees must be a CEHS faculty member (tenured, tenure-track, or adjunct), current, or retired within the past 12 months
- Those nominated should be effective advisors who facilitate degree completion, model sound scholarship and ethical behavior, help students understand and benefit from departmental and university resources, provide emotional support, offer constructive criticism, and involve students in publishing and other professional activities
- Department should seek broad input for nominations including specific outreach to state-wide campus faculty in the department

Undergraduate Faculty Mentor of the Year
This award is given each year to recognize and emphasize excellence in undergraduate academic mentoring. Other teaching and scholarly activities may become a consideration in the selection process, but the main emphasis will be on excellence in academic mentoring as judged by faculty and students.
Criteria:
- The nominee must be serving in a benefitted faculty position and have been employed at USU for a minimum of 3 years. Staff members who work as full-time advisors should not be nominated
- Other considerations for selection of nominees include:
- Mentoring and guiding students s they progress toward academic and career goals
- Work with students that involves professional, community, and/or global engagement
- Active involvement in student clubs, organizations, and honors/scholarship groups
- Student leadership development
- Impact on student support in their retention, belonging, and/or thriving in their academic and personal lives

Undergraduate Faculty Research Mentor of the Year
This award recognizes outstanding faculty who mentor undergraduate researchers are characterized as counselors and guides who encourage, instruct, and advocate. A good faculty mentor provides a role model for methods of inquiry in a field of study and for the responsible conduct of research. Good mentors often provide students with their first entry into professional circles and support the dissemination of the student’s work through professional conference participation or publication.
Criteria:
- Faculty nominee must be a current CEHS faculty member or have retired within the past 12 months prior to submission

Faculty/Staff Awards
Strong Human Services Award
This award recognizes an outstanding faculty or staff member for significant and sustained leadership in human services, applying research to improve the lives of children or adults. The award also recognizes cross-college and interdisciplinary efforts in human services, with leadership coming from a CEHS faculty or staff member.
Criteria:
- Leadership for at least 1 externally funded, significant project in which research findings have helped to improve the lives of children or adults
- A minimum of 5 years of sustained contribution to the CEHS and USU communities and not a recipient of this award for the past 7 years.

This award recognizes an individual who has provided extraordinary service to their programs and College by carrying out the responsibilities of their job in an exceptional manner.

We encourage you to consider nominating outstanding individuals in your units who meet the criteria for the awards listed here. Because only one nomination per award will be accepted per unit, please work with your department head/center director and unit awards committee to coordinate submissions. Nominations for all awards will be due November 22, 2024, and should be submitted via the Qualtrics form linked on each individual awards criteria page. Please read the instructions and criteria for each award carefully and adhere to the guidelines specified.
