Each year, the Psychology Department takes the time to appreciate and recognize the outstanding achievements of undergraduate students in various categories. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence.
EEJ CEHS Scholar of the Year
Eligibility
- The nominee should be receiving a bachelor’s degree at this year’s commencement exercises.
- The awardee must be a psychology major.
Criteria
- Nominees must demonstrate outstanding academic success and show evidence of scholarly activities ### Submission Materials
- Cover page: Name (preferred name for marketing materials), A # of nominee, department, preferred email, preferred phone number, and preferred mailing address
- Letter written by the faculty member best suited to address the student's scholarly achievements and impact of their scholarly work
- Narrative summary of the scholarly work and impact written by the student
- A summary of service and student activity involvement written by the student
- Transcript including fall grades
- Curriculum vitae
- Short bio (2 paragraphs max.)

Department Review Process
Each committee member will score each applicant on a 1-5 scale for each of the following:
- The personal statement: fit for the award
- Content of letter of recommendation: fit for the award
- Work outside of the classroom as evidenced by narrative summary and CV: fit for the award
- Academic excellence (e.g., GPA, schedule difficulty) as evidenced by the transcript
The student with the highest score will be recognized at the department level, and materials will be submitted to the college for college-level review for college-wide recognition as CEHS Scholar of the Year Award; the college awardee is submitted for consideration as the university-level awardee (Robins Awards).
EEJ CEHS Outstanding Teaching Apprentice
Eligibility
- The awardee must be a psychology major.
Criteria
- Consistently engaged in research through classes, student employment, and independent research grants.
- Students also typically seek to share their results at undergraduate research events or professional conferences.
- Academic excellence
Submission Materials
- Cover page: Name (preferred name for marketing materials), A # of nominee, department, preferred email, preferred phone #, and preferred mailing address
- A letter or essay from the student on “What undergraduate research has meant to me” (300 words max.)
- Curriculum vitae
- 200-word bio of the nominee
- A letter of nomination from the nominee’s dean, department head or faculty research mentor
Department Review Process
Each committee member will score each applicant on a 1-5 scale for each of the following:
- The personal statement: fit for the award
- Content of letter of recommendation: fit for the award
- Work outside of the classroom as evidenced by CV: fit for the award
- Academic excellence (e.g., GPA, schedule difficulty) as evidenced by the transcript
The student with the highest score will be recognized at the department level, and materials will be submitted to the college for college-level review for college-wide recognition as EEJ CEHS Undergraduate Student Researcher of the Year Award and submission to the provost's office for review for USU-wide recognition.
Outstanding Undergraduate Students
There will be a maximum of three awards in this category: Outstanding Senior, Outstanding Junior, and Outstanding Statewide Student. Students may not receive multiple Outstanding Student awards in the same year.
Eligibility
- Psychology major graduating with a bachelor’s degree at this year’s commencement exercises (Outstanding Senior).
- Psychology major graduating with a bachelor’s degree at this next year's commencement exercises (Outstanding Junior).
- Psychology major graduating with a bachelor’s degree currently enrolled at a statewide campus (Outstanding Statewide).
- Winners of CEHS Scholar of the Year are not eligible.
Criteria
- Demonstrate academic excellence and superior achievement in psychology-related work outside the classroom
Submission Materials
- A statement (750 words maximum) describing your academic excellence and achievement in psychology-related work outside the classroom.
- A letter of recommendation.
- A copy of an unofficial transcript.
- A curriculum vitae (CV).
- An application cover page per instructions.
Review Processes
Each committee member will score each applicant on a 1-5 scale for each of the following:
- The personal statement: fit for the award
- Content of letter of recommendation: fit for the award
- Work outside of the classroom as evidenced by CV: fit for the award
- Academic excellence (e.g., GPA, schedule difficulty) as evidenced by the transcript
The committee will identify high scorers and make awards across the three categories: junior standing at the time of submission, senior standing at the time of submission, and statewide student at the time of submission.
Outstanding Service Award
Eligibility
- The awardee must be a psychology major.
Criteria
- Demonstrate excellence in service to the community.
Submission Materials
- A statement (750 words maximum) describing your achievement in applied practice.
- A letter of recommendation.
- A copy of an unofficial transcript.
- A curriculum vitae (CV).
- An application cover page per instructions.
