Gerald Smith is a professor in the HPER Department where his academic contributions center on biomechanics of human motion. His research interests focus primarily on human locomotion and range from theoretical modeling of the leg as a mechanical system to applied biomechanics in sport. Central to such studies is motion analysis from which kinematic and kinetic characteristics yield insights concerning human movement and relationships to injury, health and physical performance.
