HPER Building
The HPER building contains approximately 50,000-square-feet of programming space and houses the HPER Department and USU Campus Recreation. HPER main office, faculty and advisor offices, two conference rooms plus teaching/research laboratories make up the HPER facility unit on the main floor. Campus Recreation staff offices and equipment room are located on the main floor. There are nine classrooms that seat from 25-110 students. Four classrooms have full technology while one also is equipped for interactive broadcast. There are three gymnasiums, one dance studio, a multipurpose gymnasium, two swimming pools, a 1500 square foot weight room, six racquetball courts and lockerrooms.
Adjacent to the HPER building is a grass outdoor facility used for activity classes, club sports and intramurals. Eight outdoor tennis courts complete the HPER complex.
HPER Teaching and Research Labs
Exercise Physiology Lab (HPER 152)
The Exercise Physiology Laboratory is 1560-square-feet and includes a Parvo Medics TrueMax 2400 Metabolic Measurement System with resting metabolic rate and residual volume capabilities, a Quinton Q5000 ECG with treadmill, 2 Monarch 824 E cycle ergometers with one equipped for the Wingate using SMI software, 2 other Monarch cycle ergometers, Polar heart rate monitors, 2 Jamar Handgrip dynomometers, sphygmomanometers, 3 commercial treadmills, a recumbent cycle ergometer, an upright cycle ergometer, and a Pacific universal weight machine.
Body Composition Lab (HPER 147)
This 450 -square-foot facility contains the Bod Pod air displacement plethysmography system for body composition analysis. We also have other body composition assessment devices including a hydrostatic weighing tank (in room 152), an RJL Quantum II bioelectrical impedance analyzer (BIA), an Omron HBF-500 full body analyzer, several Omron HBF-306 hand-held BIA machines, several Lange skinfold calipers, a Harpenden skinfold caliper, anthropometers, anthropometric tape measures, and a wall-mounted stadiometer.
Biomechanics Lab (HPER 215A)
This 550 square foot laboratory serves as the primary teaching laboratory for the undergraduate biomechanics class. A Biodex dynamometer, several full-skeleton anatomical models and charts are located in this laboratory. Students study human anatomical structures and work on solving biomechanical problems related to motion, sport performance and rehabilitation.
Motion Analysis Lab (HPER 203)
This 3000 square foot laboratory houses the Vicon motion analysis system. Complete with seven 500Hz Vicon cameras, two Bertec 3-D force platform, a Bassler 200Hz vidoe camera, a BIOPAC MP150 data aquisition system with 8-channel telemetric electromyographic and pressure pad modules combined with motion analysis software this sytem allows for 3-D motion analysis. Inverse dynamics can be employed for complete kinetic gait analysis.
Jim and Carol Laub Athletics - Academics Complex
At Romney Stadium the Jim and Carol Laub North End Athletics-Academic Complex hosts the 11,000-square-foot Dale Mildenberger Sports Medicine Complex and the Dr. John Worley Sports Medicine Research Center. Faculty and students from HPER collaborate with USU Sports Medicine staff on research projects related to exercise evaluation, training and rehabilitation. The complex houses two Hydroworx water treadmill systems, a Hydroworx Cold Plunge pool, a Parvomedics True One metabolic cart with Polar heart rate monitor plus a BIOPAC MP150 data aquisition system for electromyographic measurement plus a two camera video capture system.
