MS-Master of Science

HPER offers a Master of Science in Health & Human Movement with an emphasis in the following areas: Health Education, Exercise Science, Corporate Wellness and Sports Medicine. Each program is a two-year curriculum with no required summer courses. Graduate studies in HPER allow students a more in-depth course of study within their discipline combining advanced coursework with research and practical experience to prepare graduates for employment opportunities in their field. The MS degree also provides an excellent preparation for students pursuing admission into Medical School, School of Dentistry, Physical Therapy or other health professions graduate education. Graduate Teaching and Research Assistantships

HPER awards 20 graduate assistantships each year for qualified graduate students to teach in the HPER physical activity program, selected undergraduate academic courses and laboratory sections, and work with faculty with on-going research projects. Each first-year GA/TA is awarded $6,700 and is expected to earn Utah residency status to receive the in-state tuition and fees schedule. Applications for GA/TA's are available year-round and students may begin either in the Fall or Spring semesters. Applicants are evaluated based on: Previous academic success, experience and/or ability to teach variety of activity classes and/or research potential or background in HPER discipline. Graduate Admission Requirements

Applicants must earn an undergraduate degree from an accredited colege or university, apply to the USU graduate school, submit transcripts of all undergraduate work, have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (out of 4.0) on all undergraduate coursework, submit three letters of recommendation who can address applicant's academic potential for graduate education, and score at or above the 40th percentile on either the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogy Test (MAT). State of Utah Residency Requirements

Out-of-state graduate students are strongly encouraged to establish residency in Utah within 12 months of starting the graduate program. Although the 1st year  of out-of-state tuitiion is waived, the second year is not. Therefore to avoid paying out-of-state fees please read how you can successfully achieve Utah residency status:

The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) will only accept a thesis that
conforms to HPER and SGS Departmental guidelines. This is ultimately
the responsibility of the graduate student. Prior to beginning your
thesis writing you must click on the link below, read and understand
all guidelines and prepare your thesis proposal and eventually your
completed thesis document using this format.
