Exercise Science
The exercise science degree is designed to prepare graduates to pursue a career that incorporates exercise programming as a means to achieving a healthy, active lifestyle in a variety of settings. Many students complete the exercise science degree to provide a strong foundation prior to attending graduate studies in exercise science (e.g., biomechanics, exercise physiology), or the health profession (medical school, dentistry, chiropractics). This degree allows students to complete all prerequisite coursework necessary for meeting admission requirements for these graduate programs. The exercise science degree is science-based and focuses on the integration of anatomical, psychological, biomechanical and physiological principles related to human movement, exercise and rehabilitation.
In exercise science graduates will also find employment in private, hospital or corporate fitness and wellness programs providing services to the employees of Fortune 500 and smaller corporations. Hospital and health maintenance organizations also employ graduates to provide outreach wellness programming services to patients and clients such as cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Universities and colleges employ graduates in campus fitness centers. In addition, graduates work in strength and conditioning programs for intercollegiate athletics or private athletic enhancement facilities. Graduates have also enjoyed success in pharmaceutical and surgical equipment support sales.Check out career opportunities in more detail in the Advising link on the right column of this page.
